My hobby
I have lots of hobbies. Well, I like to play basketball most of all. I am a shooter. Though I am not so tall, I am captain of the Department Basketball Team. It is really an enjoyment to play basketball with my best friends after a whole day tired study. Also it is a good way to keep healthy.

Although most of the classes are conducted in Chinese, we have several courses that are conducted in English. Take the course of Electrodynamics, in which we used by Bo Thide. This semester, we use by Amnon Yariv in the course-Foundamentals of Photonics.

Do you apply other schools?
Yes, totally I apply for about 15 schools, such as U of Rochester, U of Iowa, U of New Mexico, Rice U, NCSU and so on.

Do you like to study in a small but with high quality university or a big one?
I would like to study in a big university. Big university has more diversity and it means I can meet many different people. I think this is instrumental for my growth and would make my life rich and colorful.

What are the strengths and limitations of my personality?
I think my major strength is my persistent. No matter I have decided to do, I would try my best to accomplish it and never give up easily. Also, I am extravert and like to make new friends, which makes me a “good guy” in almost every one who knows me.
Concerning the limitations, sometime I am not careful enough.

Why you think that you would be successful in graduate research?

1. Strong interest in physics. I am a motivated person. Everyone has his dream. As for me, to be a scientist in physics and doing research in my laboratory is the dream that I chase. From the very early in childhood, I raised my interest in physics both by my curiosity to the unknown world around and under the influence of my father-a high school teacher in physics. In my mind, physics is both the most fundamental and ubiquitous science, and lies in the roots of everything. This, more than anything else, has motivated me to pursue a career in it. Also, this lines up perfectly with my young ambition of knowing and shaping the world. If I have the interest in something, I would do it with motivation and drive. So I think the enthusiasm in physics would enable me to overcome the difficulties at my graduate work.

2. I have a solid academic background in physics. I did well in my undergraduate study-I got high GPA, good rank and a full score in Physics-Subject Test. So I think I would not have much problem catching up the courses and carrying out independent research in the graduate study. Also, I have got some research experience. Although these research projects are not complicated, they make me more interested in physics and give me the confidence to meet new challenges in my future study and research.

3. My personality makes me a good candidate for your program. I gained the skills to get along with other people through extracurricular activities. I am monitor of the class and captain of the Department Basketball Team, these experience improve my communication skills. I am willing to cooperate with others and have the passion to stay positive.

I know the research areas and each professor’s work from the website of your department. But there seems to be no description concerning some more specific research projects that they are currently involved in. Besides, the website was last modified more than half a year ago. So would you tell me something about the condensed matter group, if you are acquainted with that?

You have been working and teaching in your department for a long time, so would you tell me what is the biggest feature of your department you feel yourself?
