To the esteemed Graduation Admission Committee at XXX University:
I consider it a great pleasure to recommend to you Mr. X, an extraordinary graduate from our department and an exceptional candidate among your prospective students. To my knowledge, he is very interested in your Applied Physics Ph.D. program. I understand that the graduate study in XXX Univ. is the most competitive in the world. Nevertheless, according to my personal knowledge of Mr. X, I can assure you that he is quite qualified for it.
I have known him since 1997 when he enrolled in XXX University. After his first-year study, he entered our department as a special student to study specialized major coursed earlier. He studied diligently and got excellent records. He took several coursed of mine, such as the
Mr. X always goes ahead for his goal. Due to his diligence and internal drive to study, he was able to keep ranking the first or second in the comprehensive assessment of students in his class. Meanwhile his industrious study enabled him to learn more than what his classmates learned, especially many profound coursed in Physics, upon graduation he was awarded the honor of Outstanding Graduate, these honors clearly demonstrate his achievements in our department.
Mr. X does not direct all his efforts to courses study and exams. Instead, he has taken part in many research projects. In scientific research, he is good at cooperating with others while thinking independently. He is quite familiar with my research work in optical communication devices and optoelectronics. He is also interested in our research projects of optical switches and interconnection. His contribution to these projects was very good and important. His design work of microlelctronic circuits for HuaWei Technology Co. won much praise. His bachelor degree thesis was finished in the National Laboratory of Laser Technology. It won the only honor of Excellent undergraduate thesis in our department and the second-class prize of excellent research work of XXX province in 2001. such experienced indicate his solid background in optoelectronics and laser technology. Everyone who has worked with him speaks highly of his creativity and organized manner in which he approaches every problem.
Before his graduation from our department, he asked me about his future study plan. Since he had strong interest in physics, I told him that it is important to advance himself theoretically. I recommended him to study nuclear physics in Peking University, the best university in China. I believe that an extensive knowledge is very helpful to his academic future, since optoelectronics is calling for more and more new ideas from physics. Now Mr. X is a well-trained physics graduate student majoring in nuclear physics. It is his wish to do doctoral-oriented research work in the field between optoelectronics and physics. He told me that he is interested in many research projects conducted in Yale University. I know that he has read many references and thought much about these projects. As I am also working in the area of optoelectronecs, I believe that he can learn the newest ideas and make important contributions at Yale University.
I have recommended quite a few excellent students for graduate study in the US, and I heard that they are all very outstanding in the US institutions. In my opinion, Mr. X’s talent, creativity, perseverance and academic ability are truly exceptional even when comparing him with these students. He is well prepared for graduate study at Yale. I believe that the theoretical foundation and experimental training our institution has provided for him will ensure him to do outstanding research work in optoelectronics. Therefore, I strongly recommend him to you without any reservation, and shall appreciate your favorable consideration of his application.
Sincerely yours,
